Mr. Vaughn has a BS degree in Accounting from Newberry College and a M.Ed in Education from Post University, specializing in “Teaching and Learning”. Mr. Vaughn has received national recognition for his success in the “Summer Food Service Program” as well as the “At Risk Supper Program”. He has spoken at numerous Regional and National Conferences with groups such as “No Kid Hungry: Share Our Strength” and the “Food and Research Action Center or FRAC”.
Mr. Vaughn has been married for 29 years and has 3 children. His youngest daughter is currently attending Loyola Law School here in Los Angeles.
Mr. Vaughn considers himself very blessed to be in Los Angeles because he wants to be a part of a district that is committed to being a leader in the fight against Child Obesity and Child Hunger. “I applaud the Superintendent and Board members for taking a stance against Child Obesity. We are facing a nationwide epidemic of childhood diseases due to unhealthy eating habits and we as educators need to make a stand. Sometimes this stance is not the most popular one, but it is a necessary one” said Vaughn.
Mr. Vaughn says that he is excited about the upcoming school year and is extremely pleased with his staff. “I am very fortunate to have such a talented group of Food Service professionals who truly have the students’ best interest at heart. The groundwork has been laid for LAUSD to continue to lead the nation in promoting healthy nutrition and hopefully we can continue building on our past successes”.
When asked what his number one goal for this school year is, Vaughn replied “to feed as many students in LAUSD as possible”.
